1800268_592986294131728_1266422149_nAre you looking for the perfect place to perk up for late-night studying or to have an early morning meeting? Ria and Jodi Takhar saw an opportunity to open a coffeehouse and bakery near UMD and CSS and jumped at the chance to open Perk Place Coffeehouse & Bakery to create a place for conversation, collaboration, and quiet deliberation.

Founding on April 4th, 2013, breaking ground on construction in October of 2013, and much planning later, Ria and Jodi were eager to open their doors to the studying and working public alike in January of 2014. Perk Place is located in the Kenwood Shopping Center near the College of St. Scholastica and the University of Minnesota, Duluth. They are set up specifically for those of us who need a place to plug in, recharge, and get down to business. It houses an abundance of outlets, offering free Wifi, and a fireplace to cozy up next to, so you may have just found your new home office or home away from home!

You may be thinking, “Yeah, but what about the Duluth Coffee Company?” Well, stop right there because they use the very same beans, which are hand delivered by Eric Faust, owner and founder of Duluth Coffee Company. Here is what Perk Place owner, Jodi, had to say about her experience working with Duluth Coffee Company:

“Duluth Coffee really helps us. Eric is great, the beans are still warm when he brings them up.”

-Jodi Takhar

So it’s safe to say you’ll be supporting two local small business owners when you visit Perk Place! But wait…there’s more! They also get many of their baked goods from Johnson’s Bakery in Lincoln Park and their preserves from Duluth Preserving Company. So, the next time you’re looking for a spot to call your home office, have a collaborative meeting with business partners, or a quiet place for a long study session, pop into Perk and support not one, but four Duluth businesses. Perk Place Coffeehouse & Bakery certainly has its perks!

My pal Jared, and I came to the Perk Place for our monthly coffee, scone and conversation on Nov. 3rd. 2016. We’ve never been disappointed with the service or goodies that we consume. Keep up the good work Ria and Jodi! My bride and I will be in for our usual Latte’, scone and tea, this Friday. Dave Tebo
